Welcome to the
West Cornwall
HealthWatch website!

We are a voluntary, independent campaigning health watchdog serving West Cornwall since 1997.

We exist to monitor developments and campaign to safeguard and improve existing services provided in West Cornwall by the National Health Service.

WHAT IS HAPPENING TO COMMUNITY CARE?

We remain very concerned about the lack of adequate community health care, particularly in the west of the county, following the closure of Poltair Community Hospital and the loss of its ten community hospital beds.   We will monitor with interest the new Out of Hours provider, particularly watching to see the impact of the 111 service on out-of-hours provision.  We despair of the drive to competitive tendering for health services, which inevitably causes fragmentation of the NHS - the very opposite of the integration everyone desires.  See our recent press statements in 'About Us'.
